How do the recognizability and driving styles of automated vehicles affect human drivers’ gap acceptance at T- Intersections?

چکیده
• Human drivers’ gap acceptance behavior was studied in a driving simulator. Traffic included human driven vehicles and automated (AVs) Recognizable aggressive AVs resulted larger accepted critical gaps. Non-recognizable smaller Results suggest that AVs' appearance styles affect behavior. Future traffic will be composed of both human-driven (HDVs) (AVs). To accurately predict the performance mixed traffic, an important aspect is describing HDV when interacting with AVs. A few exploratory studies show HDVs change their AVs, being influenced by factors such as recognizability style Unsignalized priority intersections can significantly flow efficiency safety road network. understand at unsignalized T -intersections, simulator experiment set up which 95 drivers took part it. The route three -intersections where had to give on major road. participants drove different scenarios varied whether were recognizable or not, (Aggressive Defensive). results showed having , gaps (and gaps) merging front compared either defensive (composed defensive). This not case same scenarios. Drivers non-recognizable findings depending combined effect including accepting shorter changing original could have implications for intersections. Decision makers must carefully consider behavioral adaptations before implementing any policy changes related infrastructure.

A Comparative Study of Gap Acceptance at Priority Intersections
Gap acceptance and rejection are important parameters in determining the capacity of stop sign intersections. Gaps are either accepted or rejected depending on a number of factors including head ways, volume of traffic, drivers' characteristics etc. From the results obtained, it was observed that the critical gaps varied very slightly from weekdays to weekends, 3.8 sees for weekdays and 4 1 see...

Uncontrolled intersections are the intersections where there are no external signs or signals to control the movement of vehicles. In mixed traffic conditions priority rules are often violated by the road users. In All-way-stop-controlled intersections (AWSC), the vehicle should stop themselves before they enter the intersection and should check whether any vehicles are present in the other app...
متن کاملHow the driver wants to be driven - Modelling driving styles in highly automated driving
In recent years considerable research has been carried out in the field of autonomous driving as it opens up new opportunities for individual mobility. The increasing level of automation associated with changes in the driver’s role from active to passive raises new questions of driver-vehicleinteraction. This research focuses on a fundamental aspect of this change: Is it possible to model a cus...
متن کاملHow Do Drivers Behave in a Highly Automated Car?
This paper outlines the results of a driving simulator study conducted for the European CityMobil project, which was designed to investigate the effect of a highly automated driving scenario on driver behaviour. Drivers’ response to a number of ‘critical’ scenarios was compared in manual driving with that in automated driving. Drivers were in full control of the vehicle and its manoeuvres in th...
